Professional Biography
Angelo Parra is a communications consultant, free-lance writer/editor, and former adjunct assistant professor of public relations at New York University. His more than 25-year career began with newspaper reporting and photography, and moved into corporate communications/public relations at Continental Can Company and Union Carbide Corporation. Until early 1986, when he opened his own communications business and began teaching public relations and communications at NYU, he was Director of Employee Communications for the Ayerst Laboratories pharmaceutical division of American Home Products Corporation.
Mr. Parra's communications services include consulting, writing, and editing (magazine articles, newsletters, booklets, brochures, video scripts, and CD-ROM scripts, etc.) for corporate and non-profit organizations, large and small. As a member of the Association of Personal Historians, he also writes and edits personal memoirs and organizational histories.
His present and past clients include Physicians World, Philip Morris USA, BSMG Worldwide, Sawyer Miller Consulting, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, Production Plus, DCM Telefundraising/Telemarketing, MAX Medical Marketing Communications, Inc., McQueeny Davis Kohm & Partners, Inc., Clinical Communications, Inc., Elm City Communications, Bob Mendelsohn & Associates, Dupuis & Holubiak, Inc. At Fordham University, where Mr. Parra earned his undergraduate degree in Communications (Journalism), he was awarded the Joseph Medill Paterson Award for journalism sponsored by the New York Daily News. He also holds an M.A. in Political Science (New School for Social Research) and an M.F.A. in English (Brooklyn College). Mr. Parra was accredited in public relations by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), and has been a member of the Public Relations Society of America New York Chapter Board of Directors and the International Association of Business Communicators.
Also an award-winning playwright with productions in New York, Los Angeles, in the Washington, D.C., and Chicago areas, Florida, Hartford, and at the Edinburgh International Festival, Mr. Parra is a member of The Dramatists Guild, and has won two New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships in scriptwriting in 1989 and 2000. He is an adjunct of theatre/playwriting at Ramapo College of New Jersey, the founder and director of the Hudson Valley Professional Playwrights Lab, and is a member of the BMI/Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Librettists Workshop and the Arts Council of Rockland. He is a 2002 Rockland County Executive Arts Awards winner and a 2000 Sewanee Writers Conference Tennesse Williams Scholar.
